Economic Development

Our firm has substantial experience in all types of economic development matters including tax increment financing, community improvement districts, transportation development districts, neighborhood improvement districts, enterprise zones, and Chapter 353 tax abatement.  For example, our attorneys have represented municipalities on over 30 tax increment financing (TIF) projects that when completed will represent a total investment in these communities of over $3 billion.  This work enables us to share ideas and experiences of other communities to help achieve the best results for each of our client’s economic development efforts.  As a part of the economic development process, we also work with our municipal clients to draft development agreements and cooperative agreements designed to implement approved economic development plans.

While we serve as advocates for our clients in the economic development process, we also recognize that a balance must be maintained between the public-private partnership that results from the use of these programs and the client’s need to ensure that the public funds involved in these projects are used appropriately. We believe that this is a critical and necessary component to us helping our clients achieve the desired success in bringing the new growth, jobs and tax revenues to the community.  We can also provide guidance on creating and implementing economic development incentive policies that are used as a guide to ensure the most effective use of economic development tools.
